The best spots for a great picnic

Is your picnic basket ready and full of 100% Flemish products? Have you got some apple juice? You just need to choose the spot that suits you the best for a successful picnic. Follow us, we have made a list of our favourite spots.

1. Yourcenar park

Hundred-year-old trees, a place laden with history, paths perfect for wandering. For a country picnic, combined with family games or walks, this is an ideal spot!

2. At the foot of Cassel windmill

We don’t have a “rooftop” but we do have breathtaking panoramic views over Flanders. At the foot of the windmill, enjoy lunch on the grass overlooking Cassel.

3. Nieppe park

A green oasis in the town centre, a pretty castle, games for children. A lovely lunch break with your family awaits you. Go for a walk through the woods, go and see the animals; adults and children will love it.

4. Steenwerck park

A picnic table in a large park, the sound of the birds, a slide for children who can run around safely. A picnic followed by a visit to the Musée de la Vie Rurale (Museum of Rural Life), a great programme for a day in Steenwerck!

5. At the foot of the archery poles in Terdeghem or Merris

No, they aren’t huge poles for growing hops! These poles are for vertical pole archery. At the bottom, there is large green plain, the perfect spot for a sporty picnic!

6. Beneath the trees of la Motte au Bois

A little spot in the shade of la Motte au Bois is perfect on a sunny day. The coolness of the great trees, the charm of the square and its church, there’s no doubt about it, you’ll be sitting comfortably for a super picnic!

7. Behind Sercus church

Not very well-known, there is a grassy area behind Sercus church and its convoluted bell tower. It is a peaceful picnic spot! And if you feel like it, head for the hop field for even more peace and quiet and natural surroundings.
